Car description
The Maserati Indy was produced in 1136 units as the successor to the Mexico from 1969-1974 and offered comfortable space for 4 people including luggage. The engines available were variously sized V8 aluminium engines with 4 overhead camshafts, all of which were powered by 4 Weber downdraft carburettors and were based on the layout of the legendary Maserati 450 S, which was very successful in racing. The body of the Indy was based on a beautiful design by the Vignale studio.
The most sought-after version is undoubtedly the 4.7 litre. The difference to the base model 4.2 was power steering and a comfortable brake booster. The standard 5-speed manual gearbox from ZF is tuned for the powerful power delivery of the 290 hp 4.7 litre engine from Maserati. This beautiful Indy, delivered in its original "celeste" colour, is a French first delivery and was always based in the south of France.
The patinated, completely original leather interior has been slightly faded by the French sun in one or two places. Air conditioning, electric windows and green tinted windows round off the comfort package. This Indy 4.7 America looks particularly elegant in this colour combination. Overall, it presents itself in an authentic, unrestored condition with a light patina.
It is breathtaking when the 8-cylinder engine fired by the Weber carburettors starts up. This is certainly how Giuseppe Verdi imagined the chorus in Nabucco. This unique pitch simply gets under your skin. The 4.7 litre engine snorts, sputters and hisses with every gentle wag of the accelerator pedal. Vivo veloce! A unique show...sorry, radio play. With the wonderful eight (!) Veglia instruments, this Indy's sensitivities are always under control, the precise gearstick is responsible for the species-appropriate propulsion, the braking system does a more than decent job when required.
The vehicle has always been carefully maintained with a high level of technical understanding, and it is also completely "matching numbers". All in all, this 2+2-seater sports car icon is still completely undervalued, indeed almost undiscovered, compared to the Bora and Ghibli.
