History of the Alfa Romeo Giulia
When Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia in 1962, it was far ahead of its time. Angular yet elegant, compact yet surprisingly spacious, it combined the practicality of a four-door saloon with the technology and temperament of a sports car.
Its aerodynamically refined body achieved an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.34, remarkable for its era. Lightweight twin-cam engines, five-speed gearboxes, disc brakes and an excellent chassis made the Giulia one of the sportiest saloons of its generation.
In 1965, Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia Super Tipo 105.26 as a particularly refined and sportingly positioned version. The early first-series cars featured small gold-coloured Alfa Romeo badges on the C-pillars. These distinctive emblems gave rise to the affectionate name used among Alfisti today: “Bollino d’Oro” – the golden badge.
These early Super models have a character all of their own, with their chrome detailing, classic instrumentation and more luxurious interior specification.
Description of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Super “Bollino d’Oro” offered here
The car offered here is an early 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super Tipo 105.26 “Bollino d’Oro”.
Its history is documented by a confirmation from the Archivio Alfa Romeo. Chassis number AR 342036 was produced on 8 February 1967 and delivered on 13 February 1967 to Signor Otello Ugolini in Florence. It left the factory finished in Biancospino with a Rosso Skai interior.
This is where the documented history of this Giulia began in Florence in 1967.
The previous owner enjoyed the car for more than 20 years and had it regularly maintained and serviced by our company, the former Alfa Classic Center, throughout that period.
In 2005, the car was fitted with an optimised 1750 Alfa Romeo Twin-Cam engine. Particular care was taken to preserve the classic appearance of the engine bay. The larger engine provides noticeably more torque and refinement while perfectly complementing the character of the car.
In 2017, the chassis was further developed with our Alfa Classic suspension setup, incorporating adjustable SPAX shock absorbers, a larger anti-roll bar, uprated springs and a discreetly lowered ride height. As a result, the Giulia feels more precise and composed while retaining the light and agile character for which these cars are renowned.
Inside, Recaro sports seats upholstered in red velour have been fitted, adding a distinctly sporting yet period-correct atmosphere to the interior.
Between 2020 and 2021, the bodywork was fully restored and the car completely repainted. Since completion of this work, the Giulia has covered only around 15,000 kilometres. Today, it presents in an exceptionally well-cared-for condition.
Conclusion
This Giulia combines the special charm of an early Bollino d’Oro with carefully chosen technical improvements that further enhance its strengths.
The optimised 1750 engine, upgraded suspension and Recaro sports seats make this a classic Alfa Romeo that is not only beautiful to look at, but above all, a car that deserves to be driven.
Light, direct, agile and full of the unmistakable Italian character that has made the Giulia an automotive icon to this day.
Its documented provenance, many years of maintenance by our company, fully restored bodywork and outstanding overall condition make this car a rare opportunity to acquire a very special first-series Giulia Super.
Perhaps all it needs now is the right Romeo.
