The history of this BMW 3.0 CSi

This BMW 3.0 CSi was produced on 3 May 1973 and subsequently delivered through BMW dealer Hansen in Ohlendorf.

As early as 1976, the car was imported to Sweden, where it remained for many years. In 1989, the coupé was taken off the road.

More than three decades later, its second life began: in 2022, the BMW came to Scuderia Sportiva Colonia as a restoration project.

A comprehensive nuts-and-bolts restoration followed. The body was completely dismantled, systematically refurbished and professionally restored. Once all bodywork had been completed, the car was repainted in its original BMW colour, Fjord Metallic (039).

Today, the most complex – and for the quality of any E9, most decisive – part of the restoration has already been completed: before us stands a fully restored and freshly painted body, ready for its final rebuild.

Fjord Metallic suits the large glass surfaces, delicate chrome details and elegant lines of the BMW E9 almost effortlessly. Depending on the light, the colour can appear discreet and refined or surprisingly vibrant – a quintessential early-1970s shade and perfectly suited to a great BMW Gran Turismo.

Two particularly desirable comfort features are already incorporated:

• Steel sliding sunroof
• Four electric windows

Just imagine it: the sunroof slides open, all four side windows disappear – and suddenly you experience that wonderfully open and airy feeling that makes a BMW E9 so special even today.

Now begins perhaps the most enjoyable part of the rebuild.

Many important decisions can still be made together with the future owner. The interior, for example, can be finished either in period-correct corduroy upholstery or in high-quality leather. Leather or fabric colour, carpets and door panels can all be coordinated with Fjord Metallic and with the desired character of the car.

The future owner also has a choice when it comes to the technical specification.

Those who wish to experience their E9 as close to the original as possible can choose a classic configuration. Those who intend to enjoy the car regularly on longer journeys may prefer the 5-speed overdrive gearbox. The additional fifth gear lowers engine speed when cruising and transforms the sporting CSi into an even more relaxed and accomplished Gran Turismo.

There is also a choice of wheels:

• original-style 14-inch Pedrini alloy wheels
• sporty 16-inch Alpina-style wheels

On request, the car can also be equipped with tinted glass, air conditioning, classic or modern audio solutions with Bluetooth, individual suspension settings, additional comfort features, or discreet technical and engine upgrades.

After all, an E9 was never built to spend its life beneath a car cover.

It was built to travel.

And that is exactly our philosophy: we do not modernise simply for the sake of modernisation. Every improvement should make you want to drive your BMW more often and with even greater pleasure – without taking away the character that has made it so fascinating for more than five decades.

Then it is still well worth talking to us.

Our manufactory regularly has additional BMW E9s at various stages of restoration. With several of these cars, exterior colour, interior specification and technical configuration can still be individually determined.

So if your dream E9 is finished in Inka, Türkis, Chamonix, Polaris or another original BMW colour, you do not have to search endlessly for a finished car that happens to match all of your personal preferences.

An individually produced photo book provides comprehensive documentation of all restoration work carried out and underlines the quality of the work performed.
