Car description

Alpina B3S Cabriolet – Open-Top Perfection from Buchloe

When the sun rises over the Bavarian Alps and light reflects off chrome and paintwork, one begins to understand what Alpina has always stood for: the union of technical finesse, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. With the B3S Cabriolet, introduced in 2002, Alpina brought this philosophy to the open road. A car that takes the character of the BMW E46 and, with Alpina’s mastery, transforms it into an automobile that is more than the sum of its parts: an open-top Gran Turismo of rare allure.

Beneath the bonnet beats the heart of a true classic: the Alpina-refined 3.4-liter straight-six. Its 305 hp does not erupt as a noisy spectacle, but rather as a powerful, silky-smooth symphony. The engine revs eagerly, responds instantly, and conveys that unshakable composure which has always distinguished Alpina from mere sports cars. It is that very feeling of effortlessly riding a wave of power – whether on winding country roads or at 265 km/h on the autobahn.

As Auto Motor und Sport once noted, the B3S embodies “that rare balance of composure and forcefulness” – a description especially true of the Cabriolet. Combined with the SWITCH-TRONIC automatic transmission, it reveals precisely that dual character for which Buchloe is renowned: relaxed long-distance comfort in automatic mode, and at the touch of a button the precise control of manual gear selection. Particularly with the roof down, the character of this Alpina comes alive – the harmony of a silky engine, Alpina’s chassis precision, and the sound of a free-revving straight-six remains an experience that fascinates to this day.

The example offered here is a stroke of luck in every respect. It comes from first ownership, is accident-free and verifiably free of any repainting – a quality that makes it a true rarity today. With just 78,623 km from new, this Cabriolet presents itself virtually in as-new condition: paintwork, interior, and mechanics appear as though fresh from the showroom. Only a few tiny stone chips on the front spoiler hint that this car has actually been driven – honest traces that underline its authenticity.

Its history is impeccably documented: a fully stamped service booklet, the original order sheet, all owner’s manuals and Alpina supplements, the complete tool kit, and even the rarely preserved Alpina compass are included. Later, the owner acquired an original factory hardtop, perfectly complementing the Cabriolet’s open character and extending its year-round usability.

The specification is both tasteful and deliberately understated: Orient Blue Metallic, Montana Black leather, automatic climate control, Professional navigation system with mobile phone preparation. At the express wish of its first owner, the car was ordered without Alpina decals and rear spoiler – a decision that today lends the Cabriolet a particularly pure and timeless elegance.

A B3S Cabriolet in this configuration, in this condition, and with such complete documentation is an absolute rarity. With its limited production numbers, it is already among the rarest modern Alpinas – yet in this state of originality, it becomes a true collector’s jewel of the highest order. Once part of one of the finest BMW and Alpina collections, it is now ready to embark on its next journey – as a driver’s collectible, as the expression of an era, and as a symbol of that unique blend of understatement and passion that has always defined Alpina.

Résumé

This Alpina B3S Cabriolet is no ordinary youngtimer – it is the promise of a new car, preserved across more than two decades. Original paint, accident-free, and from first ownership, it radiates the authenticity collectors value so highly. Its lines shine, its interior appears untouched, and its character is defined by precision and understatement.

This Cabriolet embodies what Alpina has always strived for: driving culture, elegance, and exclusivity in perfect harmony. A car that not only excites but seduces – and in this form, ranks among the rarest and most desirable opportunities on today’s collector market.
