Car description
History of the Alfa Romeo GT Bertone
1963 was an important year in automobile history. Icons were presented at the IAA in Frankfurt, such as the Porsche 901, the first Pagoda or the new Alfa Coupé. Sober, taut, harmonious and functional were the new cars, and the coupés from the drawing boards of Giorgio Giugiaro of the Bertone company were among the most timeless and beautiful designs from this house. Under the bonnet was Alfa Romeo's famous twin cam, which had debuted in the Giulietta in 1953 and ten years later was still one of the best four-cylinder engines in the world: light alloy block and cylinder head, two overhead camshafts and a solid duplex chain as camshaft drive, plus two twin carburettors in the case of the Coupé, combined with the elaborate chassis and four disc brakes as standard, made the heart of every sporty ambitious driver beat faster. The racing versions 1300 or 1600 GTA drove circles around the competition and even the Alfa facelift with smoothed front end, missed from the end of the 60's, did no harm to the economic success. On the racetracks, the Bertone GT collected trophies by the dozen, even after production had ceased! Well over 200,000 examples left the factory in Arese/Italy. Unfortunately, corrosion and badly repaired accident damage took their toll on the Coupé's in the following years and so the worldwide stock has been reduced considerably.
Vita of the GT Junior 1300 offered here
The Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1300 offered here is an edge bonnet of the coveted first series. The first registration was in Germany and according to the available vehicle documents only 3 previous owners could be determined. About 15 years ago this Alfa was completely restored. A short time ago an engine and gearbox restoration was carried out by the previous owner at a specialist garage and since the engine restoration this GT has only been driven approx. 1,500 km. For reasons of convenience, the last owner is now parting with this jewel. Currently the more powerful contemporary 1.6 litre engine is installed, which with its 109 hp is responsible for a very sporty locomotion. The interior is as good as new, the roof lining has been extensively renewed.
Currently, this Alfa Romeo has German registration papers incl. registration certificate as a classic car. Italian "Dolce-Vita" is guaranteed with this beautiful Coupé,
