History of the BMW 02 Touring

A big mouth, a lot behind it - that's what visitors to the international motor show in Brussels in 1971 probably thought when the Touring was presented to the trade public for the first time. This "estate coupe" inherited the sporty blend of superior driving performance and high utility value from its brother, the 02 saloon. Up to the B-pillar, the Touring was identical to the saloon in terms of body and engine, but the rear section offered more variability and a much better utility value and thus suited the changed leisure behaviour of this generation. The new, lively, sporty design significantly refreshed the 02 series. Engines from 1.6 to 2 litres were installed. The 2002 tii with Kugelfischer injection pump and 130 hp was the top-of-the-range version of its time, with a top speed of almost 190 km/h

While the saloon also received new, now rectangular rear lights as part of a facelift in 1973, the touring retained the round lights so typical of the 02 until the end of production in 1974. 25,827 units were built in total.

Vita of the BMW 2002 tii touring offered here

The BMW tii touring offered here was first ordered by the Lower Saxony Defence Department and used for terrorist surveillance. A rare option at the time was a steel sliding roof. A delivery certificate from BMW is available. Three decades later, BMW 02 Pope Andy Andexer discovered this vehicle and restored it nuts & bolts and without compromise. For example, the bodywork was completely cathodic dip-paint coated before painting. In addition to a steel sunroof, the occupants are spoilt with leather-covered sports seats. The dashboard is not only equipped with original Alpina additional instruments, but is also covered in leather. The engine has been completely overhauled, a revised 5-speed sports gearbox installed, as well as a Bilstein suspension. Even the original radio used by the German secret service is still present. Additional chrome headlights were also installed at the time. A Classic Data report from 2018 certified this historic BMW Touring with a grade of 1 and a value of €69,000. After completion, this tii-touring was transferred to an exceptional BMW collection. The paintwork, interior and technology are still in excellent condition.

Summary

This Tii is already a design icon from BMW. As the top version in the tii Kugelfischer injection system with 130 hp and with its classy and sporty appearance, it is a sought-after cornering predator. Of course, it also offers comfort and enough space for a family of four with luggage. The history is unique, the perfect vehicle to go on the hunt for criminals again.
