Type history
The Mercedes Benz 190 (W201) was popularly known as "Babybenz" due to its size. Over 1.8 million copies sold, prove the economic success. Since the market launch in 1982, Mercedes has repeatedly launched new engine models. In the mid-1980s, Mercedes started a cooperation with Cosworth to develop a new cylinder head in order to respond to the increased demand for more engine power.
The crowning glory is without a doubt the 2.5 liter 16V built in from 1987. In the version without KAT (RÜF) it was responsible for a whopping 204 hp. This engine was later used in the EVOI and further developed in the legendary EVO II to 235 hp. The models that appeared at the same time as KAT had almost 10 HP less.
History of the Mercedes 190 E 2.5 offered here
The 190 E 2.5 16V offered here was built in November 1989 for the Spanish market. It is the coveted RÜF version with the powerful 204 hp. In Germany at that time mostly the catalytic converter engines were sold with 10 HP less. This 190E was delivered to Jorge P. in Seville in the color “blue black metallic” (199U), electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seat (221 + 222), outside temperature display (240), perforated leather, black (271A), electric steel sliding roof (412), headrests in the rear (430) automatic antenna (532) anti-theft alarm system (551) air conditioning (580) electric windows all around (584 + 586) heat-insulating green glass with band filter and heated rear window (593) rear speakers (812) door contacts rear doors and light (876). This baby benz became part of a considerable Mercedes Benz collection. Jorge sold this Mercedes Benz almost 30 years later to Scuderia Sportiva Colonia with a service booklet of 52,060 KM. So this Mercedes is 1st hand. The condition of this vehicle is unique. This 2.5 16V year-old car exudes character in every detail. The engine starts when requested, the 5-speed gearbox is crisp, the chassis is sporty and firm, the brakes decelerate superbly. The body is flawless, the paintwork is largely original except for the bonnet and roof (unfortunately, aggressive bird droppings could not be removed). The gaps are perfect.
At the moment this vehicle still has Spanish documents. We are happy to help with the preparation of the German papers, TÜV acceptance, H approval, etc. for a separate expense allowance.
Of course we have the service booklet and complete Mercedes on-board folder. Spare wheel, as well as the complete set of tools and jack are also on board. We also have a set of the original rims. Without a doubt, it is a very authentic vehicle and in this condition it is a "collectors item".
