Car description
For the SIMCA company in Nanterre / France, the equation "beauty + performance = sales success" meant in the mid-1960s and so the sporty SIMCA 1200 S Bertone Coupé arose from the good SIMCA 1000 Coupé in 1967. Giorgietto Giugiaro drew this icon for Bertone, which has not lost its charm to this day. The special thing about this coupé is that the engine is installed lengthways at the rear. Combined with its "knock-knees" with a 3-degree negative camber, the otherwise typical rear-slinging manners were almost completely expelled from this coupé.
The bumper motor with the camshaft on the side and two carburettors is a good high-performance motor. In connection with the very low curb weight, this SIMCA really offered outstanding sports car performance. The interior space is surprising. Even tall people can find enough space here. The instrumentation is sporty and sufficient and, like the entire interior, of high quality.
This vehicle offered here was one of the first 1200 S to be registered for the first time in Austria on July 10, 1968. The original individual permit from Austria and the entire history of this vehicle are available. Many of these SIMCA 1200 S were used as the basis for motorsport use. So also this “combat dwarf”. 175/50 R 13 Yokohama are currently mounted and convey a massive appearance, paired with sufficient grip. The engine has been drilled out and the power has been increased to approx. 130 hp using fine, sporty ingredients. Of course, the chassis and braking system have been adapted accordingly. Stainless steel sports exhaust, OMP sports seats, cage, trip master, additional instruments, sports steering wheel complete the package. There is also another set of aluminum wheels with semislick.
The original FIA Historic Vehicle Identity Form is still present. Here it is certified that this SIMCA already participated in the Ennstal Rally, Spring Rally and It. Hill Claim Rally in Stainz in 1971. In addition, over the years there have been other deployments at, among others, Bavaria Historic, Steiermark Historic, several times the famous San Remo Rally, Du Var, Rechberg hill climb. All missions are lovingly documented, partly by stickers on the vehicle or by entries in the FIA passport.
The body is not flawless, but the technology is on point and very impressive. The perfect vehicle for the friend of rare and very likeable sporty racing vehicles. Not for people with weak nerves, more for contemporaries with gasoline in their blood.
