Car description
History of the BMW E9 Coupé
The BMW E9 Coupé is without doubt one of the most outstanding vehicles in automotive history and is still regarded today as the epitome of elegance and performance. The 2800 CS was presented at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in 1968, a model that laid the foundations for the later success of the E9. With the appearance of the 3.0 CSI in the fall of 1971, equipped with powerful fuel injection and 200 hp, the coupé really took off.
The design of the E9 is a masterpiece in itself. The elongated hood, the curved lines and the sleek profile make the 3.0 CSI an absolute eye-catcher on the road. The famous “Hofmeister kink” on the C-pillar, a trademark of the design, was coined by Wilhelm Hofmeister. However, the influence of Italian design art cannot be overlooked: The stabilizing kink already found its form in the BMW 3200 CS by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who worked at Bertone. This harmonious fusion gives the E9 a lightness and delicacy that is unparalleled in the automotive world.
But the E9 is not just a feast for the eyes. Under the hood is the powerful 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which ensures impressive driving performance. With acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in well under eight seconds and handling that shines both on the highway and on winding country roads, the 3.0 CSI offers a driving experience that combines sporty demands with effortless comfort.
The E9 was not only a star on the road, but also on the race track. As the base vehicle for the legendary BMW motorsport racing cars of the 1970s, it celebrated numerous successes and set standards in motorsport. The combination of technical perfection and Italian design made it one of the most sought-after models of its time.
With only 8,144 units produced, the 3.0 CSI remains a highly coveted collector's item to this day. Anyone who takes a seat behind the wheel of this coupé not only experiences the fascination of a bygone era, but also a piece of automotive history that makes the hearts of car fans all over the world beat faster. The BMW E9 3.0 CSI - a timeless masterpiece that has lost none of its appeal even today.
History of the BMW 3.0 CSI -SSC-514 offered here
This BMW E9 3.0 CSI was produced in 1972 and probably first delivered to Switzerland. On 29.09.1977 this coupé was sold to Italy and moved with the Italian license plate CT-4131526 from then on. In early 2022, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia purchased this BMW and subjected it to an uncompromising “Nuts&Bolts” restoration, which was completed in October 2024. The bodywork was completely dismantled, defective panels replaced and reassembled in the correct shape. According to the paint residues found during the dismantling of the vehicle, this CSI was painted in the original BMW color Malaga (021) and then fitted with a light brown leather interior with corresponding door panels. In our opinion, this is one of the most elegant color combinations for a BMW E9. The engine and its ancillary units were also completely restored, the fault-prone D-Jetronic modernized with a “hidden” programmable injection system, an overhauled 5-speed Getrag gearbox installed, the original 14” Petrini aluminium rims refurbished and fitted with new tires, the electrics and the VDO instruments overhauled. Brake system, fuel pump, all associated distributors and lines renewed, and new Bilstein shock absorbers installed. ...simply every detail was overhauled or renewed. A few upgrades were also given to this CSI in the course of the restoration: Color glazing, maintenance-free stainless steel exhaust system, device for a retro radio with chrome antenna, separate USB ports for cell phone or navigation. In short, a perfect, as-new BMW 3.0 CSI in one of the most elegant color combinations is waiting for its new owner. This car still needs to be run in according to factory specifications, we offer an additional one year warranty, provided that all service work is carried out at our premises.
Summary
The Scuderia Sportiva Colonia paid particular attention to these technically mature coupés. The ravishing shape, the excellent chassis, the very good brakes and the powerful engine were - at the beginning of the 1970s - the measure of all things. The BMW slogan "The joy of driving" comes to life in the BMW E9 in a unique and unmistakable way. The interior pampers the owner with luxurious materials, the seats are very comfortable with acceptable lateral support and the individually framed VDO round instruments are hard to beat in terms of elegance. One car tester wrote so appropriately that if James Bond had been a German, he would have chosen a BMW E9 as his company car, although he would certainly have appreciated the standard power steering in the CSI. By the way, if you don't like the colour or installed options, we currently have over 10 more BMW E9s in restoration, whereby each potential buyer can choose their own individual BMW original colour, as well as the options to be installed. We are happy to provide a customised offer for each vehicle, including a list of options, on request.
