Car description
History of the Alfa Romeo GT Bertone
1963 was an important year in automobile history. At the IAA in Frankfurt, real icons were presented, such as the Porsche 901, the first Pagoda or the new Alfa Coupé. Sober, taut, harmonious and functional were the new cars, and the coupés from the drawing boards of Giorgio Giugiaro of the Bertone company were among the most timeless and beautiful designs from this house. Under the bonnet was Alfa Romeo's famous twin cam, which had made its debut in the Giulietta in 1953 and ten years later was still one of the best four-cylinder engines in the world: light alloy block and cylinder head, two overhead camshafts and a solid duplex chain as camshaft drive - plus two twin carburettors in the case of the Coupé - combined with the elaborate chassis and four disc brakes as standard, made the heart of every sporty ambitious driver beat faster. The racing versions 1300 or 1600 GTA drove circles around the competition. Even the Alfa facelift with smoothed front end from the end of the 60s did nothing to diminish its commercial success. On the racetracks, the Bertone GT collected trophies by the dozen, even after production had ceased! Well over 200,000 examples left the factory in Arese/Italy. Unfortunately, corrosion and poorly repaired accident damage took their toll on the coupés in the years that followed, and so the worldwide stock has been significantly reduced.
Vita of the GT Junior "Speciale" offered here
The Alfa Romeo GT Junior offered here is an edge bonnet of the sought-after first series. Presumably it was rebuilt at Alfa Romeo as a 1600 Veloce, because of the number range of the chassis number, it corresponds to a 1300.
In 2006/07 this vehicle was completely restored and modified at the request of the present owner. The aim was to produce one of the fastest Bertone Coupes without compromising its suitability for everyday use. Together with the legendary Alfa Classic Center in Dortmund, the basic vehicle was dismantled, the body stripped of paint and meticulously rebuilt. The following refinements were then made: Brand new Alfa Romeo Twin Spark engine 2 litre, single throttle injection system free programmable with lambda control and 8 single ignition coils, shock absorber fabrication by KW Motorsport, sport springs Eibach 30mm, oil/water heat exchanger from 16 cylinder Bugatti, restored gearbox 2 litre, rear axle 2 litre locked 10: 41, handmade exhaust system with fan manifold stainless steel, original Technomagnesio 6 ½ *14 rims, 55 litre fuel tank, dual circuit brake system with 4 piston caliper ATE front with internally ventilated discs. Interior: dashboard 2 colour leather, original Veloce seats, gimbal tunnel and door panels covered in leather, Nardi Classic leather steering wheel with polished spokes. The pedals were changed to more user-friendly hanging pedals. The total investment at the time, according to available invoices, was almost € 200,000!
The first registration of this Veloce was in Italy. In 1995 it was imported to Germany and in 2004 it went to its second German owner, who then carried out the restoration described above and to date has covered 26,477 km without any problems. This Alfa has been serviced by the Alfa Classic Center from 1995 until today. Its current condition can certainly be described as the condition of a year-old car. Both the technology and the interior, as well as the bodywork and paintwork are without fault.
This Alfa Romeo is currently in possession of German registration papers including a certificate of registration as a classic car. All modifications have been registered.
Summary
This Bertone does not only embody the typical Italian "Dolce-Vita", but above all it is a shapely, timeless Coupe with an unbelievable and hardly comparable performance. In short, a ravishing design icon with modified technology, a real she-wolf in sheep's clothing. Not for purists, but for Alfisti who appreciate a ravishing sporty coupe, which with its horsepower/power weight does not need to hide from its big brothers from Maranello. Spare parts are still available at affordable prices. We can gladly take care of servicing with our new sister company Scuderia Sportiva Servizio (ex Alfa Classic Center) in Dortmund.
