“At first I looked around but couldn't find the car I was dreaming of. So I decided to build it myself. “Ferdinand Porsche on his development of the Porsche 356. It was with this model that the sensational rise of the sports car manufacturer Porsche began in the first place. If in the beginning many VW parts were still installed in the original model of the 356 and the engine performance was still a little poor, the 356 was continuously developed and already with the 356 A not only different body shapes, but also different engines were installed. The development of the vertical shaft (Fuhrmann) motor is legendary, which in its time in the Carrera GS brought a remarkable 100 hp to the rear wheels and had easy play with the extremely light 356. From 1959 the B-model was in the Porsche showrooms.
History of the Porsche 356 A "outlaw"
This sports car was first delivered to the USA. Since the 356 B models were already in the starting blocks, it was difficult for the last 356 A to be sold. So these vehicles were modified and tuned and sold as "outlaw" in its day. The same fate happened to the 356 A offered here and resulted in a radical conversion by the founder and Porsche specialist Hank Gottfredson, owner of GT Racing in Colorado Springs, as early as the 1970s. The engine was contributed by the legendary engine builder Duane Spencer, author of the "Porsche 356 Performance Manual". It is a modified 1,720 cc engine with Weber double carburetors, switched by a racing gearbox cluster (BBAA, as per GS Carrera Speedster and 550 Spyder specification) The red tachometer only starts at 7000 rpm. Other extras have been installed such as 993 oil coolers and steel braided lines for oil and brake lines. Front + rear disc brakes, a double master brake cylinder, racing tank with electrical six-volt fuel pump. Next is an oil and fuel pressure gauge and a fuel pressure regulator addition in the engine compartment. The outside also includes a modified carbon bonnet with leather straps, carbon fiber side mirrors and the six-inch wheels Fuchs painted to match the interior. The windows were made to measure Made of polycarbonate, the interior is covered with new, high-quality leather and a beautiful Nardi Steering wheel installed. The side windows are adjusted with leather straps, the rear sides and rear window are made of Macrolon. This 356 A is consequently and radically weight-optimized. This sports car has been part of a French collection since 2015 and accordingly has French vehicle documents.
All in all, this Porsche is not suitable for purists and bean counters. He is very special. There is no second copy like this on the world market. It is in fantastic condition and technically 100% ready for use. Driving it is not for the faint of heart, but it is very suitable for all petrol heads that actually have petrol in their blood.
