The history of the M 635 CSI
With the M635CSi, BMW ushered in a special era of luxury and high performance from April 1984. The basis was the legendary M88 engine that was first used in the M1. This four-valve engine has been slightly revised and equipped with two overhead camshafts (DOHC) and six individual throttle valves. Thanks to the revised cylinder head and the new injection system, the engine output has been increased by another 9 hp compared to the M1. The M CSI was supplemented with a reinforced manual sports transmission from Getrag. The rear axle received a multi-disc self-locking differential with a 25% locking degree. The chassis was also lowered by 10 mm, including reinforced stabilizers. Of course, the braking system was also adapted to the sporting needs. ABS was standard on board.
Paul Bracq was responsible for this timeless and already very progressive design.
In racing too, the M635 CSI built on the success of its predecessor - the 3.0 CSL. The 635CSi celebrated victories in the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in the European Touring Car Championship (champions 1981, 1983, 1986) in 1983, 1985 and 1986.
"Sharknose" or "Bayern Express" were the nicknames that were given to this sports car. With a term of over 13 years, the first “six” is the longest-produced series from BMW.
History of the offered M 635 CSI
This "matching" number BMW M635 CSI was delivered in Rome / Italy and approved with the license number ROMA 42639 H on Mr. Armando B. on April 19, 1985. Thus, this BMW belongs to the coveted and more original first series without a catalytic converter.
Within Rome, the owner changed in 1996 to Mr. Giuseppe V. who sold this BMW to an important collector in Rome in 2002. Of course, it also bore its Roman license plate. In 2017 we acquired this "Sharknose" for the first time with a mileage of almost 79,000. We carefully repaired the damage to the stand and then moved to another important collection in Cologne. Here it has been moved more over the years and so the odometer now shows 83,140.
Delivered in the metallic color "Diamantschwarz 181", with matching black leather upholstery 0203 and manually adjustable sports seats, four power windows, ABS and without radio (!) The first owner probably wanted to enjoy the pleasant sound of the M88 engine and all other owners did it equal. The on-board computer is without pixel errors, the function tester is without errors. The engine starts immediately when requested, the gearbox and the braking system perfect. The paintwork is excellent. The clear coat has been renewed over the years. There are hardly any points of criticism about this vehicle, the history is complete and comprehensible.
At the moment we have German registration documents, of course copies of the Italian registration documents are also available. There is also an operating manual for this vehicle, tools and jack
We are pleased that we can offer such a rare, authentic and well-maintained BMW M 635 CSI on commission.
