Car description

Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé Bertone

When the Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé appeared on the scene in the late 1960s, one thing was immediately clear: this was no ordinary Fiat. This elegant 2+2 coupé brought together Italian design, sporting engineering and a touch of Ferrari magic to create a truly special automotive composition.

Designed by Bertone, powered by a Ferrari-developed V6 engine, and built in an era when style, sound and driving feel were still inseparably linked, the Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé embodies that very raffinatezza — that refined Italian sophistication which continues to make great classics so desirable today.

The Fiat Dino was introduced in 1966 on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli and succeeded the Fiat 2300 Coupé. It was offered in two body styles: an elegant coupé designed by Bertone and a spider penned by Pininfarina.

The Dino owes its special place in Fiat history above all to its extraordinary engine. For the first and only time, a Ferrari-developed and Ferrari-built engine was installed in a series-production Fiat. This charismatic V6 engine was used in related form in the Ferrari Dino 246 and later in the Lancia Stratos — a technical lineage that is not merely read about, but heard, felt and experienced.

In the Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé, this characterful six-cylinder engine was combined with fine sporting components: a ZF 5-speed gearbox, a superbly tuned chassis, disc brakes all round and a limited-slip differential. The result was an automobile that blends comfort and sportiness in a wonderfully Italian manner.

The interior follows the spirit of the early 1970s: luxurious, distinctive and designed in a bold colour world that today appears wonderfully charming once again. The Dino is therefore not only a sporting coupé, but also a stylish document of its time — a car for people who appreciate technology and taste in equal measure.

Despite its qualities, respectable performance and undeniable sporting talents, the Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé remained rare. Only 2,398 examples were produced. For Fiat, this was apparently not enough, and production was discontinued in 1972 without the presentation of a direct successor. All the more fascinating today is the fact that this exceptional Fiat joined the elite circle of 200 km/h automobiles as early as 1970.

History of the Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé offered here

The vehicle offered here was discovered and imported from Sweden by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia. It appears to have been first registered in Sweden; according to our current assessment, we assume a total of only four previous owners.

When Scuderia Sportiva Colonia found the car in Sweden in 2015, it was complete, yet clearly marked by the passage of time. The body was somewhat “crispy”, the car had been repainted red at some point, and the interior was in a rather unfortunate condition. The technical findings, however, were all the more pleasing: the engine and gearbox were in surprisingly good condition.

It was therefore decided to return this rare Dino carefully and to a high standard to its original appearance. The body was completely overhauled and subsequently repainted in its original delivery colour, Nocciola — an elegant, warm shade that beautifully emphasises the lines of Bertone’s design.

The interior was also rebuilt faithfully to the original specification. With the support of the Italian classic upholstery specialist Maeli, an exact re-edition of the original corduroy upholstery was sourced, together with the correct green carpeting. This allowed the rare and distinguished original colour combination to be recreated — one of the details that makes this Dino particularly appealing today.

A wooden steering wheel with Dino emblem was ordered from Nardi, adding another classic note to the interior. The engine and gearbox were resealed, the electrical system repaired, the suspension and steering restored, the brake calipers overhauled, and new brake discs, pads and a new exhaust system were installed.

Conclusion

This Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé Bertone is an exceptional representative of a brief yet brilliant chapter in Italian automotive history. It combines the elegance of a Bertone coupé with the technical aura of a Ferrari V6 and the usability of a luxurious 2+2 Gran Turismo.

Presented in its original colour combination, carefully rebuilt and technically comprehensively prepared, this Dino now stands as a stylish, rare and highly characterful classic. A ready-to-drive Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé in outstanding condition — elegant, sporting, rare and filled with precisely that Italian fire which cannot be engineered. It has to be felt.
