Car description
Ferrari 365 GT 2+2
Enzo Ferrari was never particularly fond of the idea of building a four-seater Ferrari. Yet demand was undeniable – models such as the 250 GTE and the 330 GT had already paved the way. It was only with the introduction of the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 at the 1967 Paris Motor Show, however, that the perfect balance of luxury, performance and timeless elegance was truly achieved.
Designer Aldo Brovarone combined the front end of the Ferrari 500 Superfast with the rear of the 365 California, creating a form of remarkable harmony and proportion. Measuring close to five metres in length, the 365 GT 2+2 was among the largest production Ferraris of its era – a presence that inspired Road & Track to coin the enduring nickname “Queen Mary”.
Technically, the 365 GT 2+2 represented the very best of its time. A newly developed 4.4-litre Colombo V12 delivers effortless power and impressive flexibility. Paired with a precise 5-speed ZF gearbox, sophisticated independent suspension with self-levelling rear axle, and servo-assisted braking, the result is a driving experience that blends comfort and performance in a truly exceptional manner. Thanks to its generous space and comparatively large luggage capacity, the 365 GT 2+2 is widely regarded as Ferrari’s first true “family” grand tourer.
The interior reflects this Gran Turismo philosophy through luxurious materials and a clear, driver-focused layout. Connolly leather, finely calibrated Veglia instruments and the classic wooden steering wheel create an atmosphere of understated elegance and intuitive control.
The V12 begins almost imperceptibly – like the slow rise of a curtain – and, as the revs build, unfolds into a deep, resonant soundscape of remarkable emotional depth, reminiscent of the dramatic crescendo of a Verdi opera.
A true masterpiece from Ferrari: between 1967 and 1971, just 801 examples of this exceptional model were produced.
History of the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 offered here (SSC no. 191)
This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 was first registered on 17 October 1970. In 2003, the car found its way to the Principality of Monaco, where it remained in the hands of a passionate automotive enthusiast. On 27 October 2011, it was ultimately acquired by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia.
Over the course of its life, the car was repainted from its original Marrone Colorado Metallizzato to silver metallic. After careful consideration, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia decided to return this exceptional example to its original colour as part of a restoration carried out to the highest standards.
The vehicle was fully disassembled for this purpose. The bodywork was entrusted to the renowned specialist Scartapatti in Mantova, resulting in a superbly rebuilt and meticulously restored body, including the correct refurbishment of the GRP components in the underbody.
The original Colombo V12 engine is matching numbers, underlining the authenticity of this car. As part of the ongoing restoration, engine and gearbox are being rebuilt in-house by highly experienced specialists in classic Ferrari powertrains. The interior will be retrimmed using original-specification Connolly Vaumol leather, restoring the authentic character of this Gran Turismo in full.
Particularly noteworthy is the current stage of the restoration: the future owner has the rare opportunity to complete this Ferrari according to personal preferences – from exterior colour to interior specification. An opportunity that is seldom found, even within the exclusive world of classic Ferraris.
As the extensive and time-consuming bodywork has already been completed, the remaining work is limited to paint, mechanical refurbishment and final assembly. Completion can therefore be expected within approximately six months.
Summary
This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 embodies the essence of the great grand tourers of the 1960s: effortless elegance, commanding performance, and the ability to transform every journey into a refined experience.
Combined with its authentic substance, matching numbers and outstanding restoration foundation, this represents far more than just another classic Ferrari – it is the rare opportunity to complete a car of this calibre to one’s own vision.
An exceptional grand tourer – and a Ferrari for the future.
