History of the BMW 3.0 CSi offered here · SSC-524
This BMW 3.0 CSi was produced in September 1971 and therefore belongs to the early examples of the CSi model, which was introduced only after the summer break of 1971. Since 1973, the vehicle has been registered in Austria; it currently comes with Austrian registration documents.
Scuderia Sportiva Colonia was able to acquire this special BMW 3.0 CSi in 2022. As the existing paintwork and certain details did not meet our standards, we decided to carry out a comprehensive restoration and return the car to a particularly elegant, classic configuration.
Today, the car is once again presented in Chamonix White, colour code 085, combined with blue velour upholstery — one of the finest and most stylish colour combinations for the great BMW coupé. The original 14-inch wheels, the Scuderia Design wooden steering wheel, the wooden gear knob and a period-correct radio underline the discreet, near-factory character of this car.
As part of the restoration, the engine and the 5-speed Getrag overdrive gearbox were completely dismantled and overhauled. The suspension was fitted with new bushings, the shock absorbers were replaced, and the braking system was overhauled with new discs and pads. The tyres were also renewed.
The fitted 5-speed Getrag gearbox gives the car a noticeably more relaxed touring capability without compromising the classic character of the BMW E9. Especially on longer journeys, the car feels more sovereign, more relaxed and more modern to drive — while still remaining, in appearance and spirit, an authentic classic of the early 1970s.
Summary
For many years, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has paid particular attention to these technically sophisticated coupés. Their captivating shape, excellent chassis, effective brakes and powerful straight-six engine made the BMW E9 one of the most fascinating Gran Turismos of its class in the early 1970s.
The BMW slogan “Sheer Driving Pleasure” comes to life in the E9 in a particularly elegant and unmistakable way. The interior pampers its owner with high-quality materials, comfortable seats, a clear and classic layout, and individually framed VDO round instruments, which remain among the most beautiful cockpit details of that era.
Or, as one motoring journalist once aptly put it: if James Bond had been German, he would probably have chosen a BMW E9 as his company car — and he would certainly have appreciated the CSi’s standard power steering.
This BMW still needs to be run in according to factory specifications following its restoration. We provide a one-year warranty on the work carried out by us, provided that all required service work is performed by our company or by a service partner selected by us.
In addition, we regularly have further BMW E9 models in stock in various stages of restoration. Depending on the project, colour, equipment and technical options can be individually coordinated with the buyer. We would be pleased to provide a separate offer including an options list.
