History of the Fiat Dino

The Fiat Dino is a sports car presented by Fiat in 1966 on the occasion of the hundredth birthday of Giovanni Agnelli. It replaced the extravagant Fiat 2300 Coupé and Fiat allowed itself the luxury of commissioning a designer for the Coupé (Bertone) and one for the Spider (Pininfarina) during this time.

The engines for the 2.4 liter top version of the Fiat Coupé came surprisingly directly from Ferrari and were installed in the Ferrari Dino as well as in the Stratos for the World Rally Champion Lancia.

The Ferrari engine was somewhat domiciled in the Fiat Dino. This 2400 was designed as a sporty touring coupé with comfortable equipment. The interior is very high quality and comfortable. Drivers with sporty ambitions were given a mechanical limited-slip differential, a sporty chassis, 5-speed gearbox, disc brakes all around, a sports steering wheel, lots of additional fittings and a Dinoplex ignition system. So the Fiat Dino 2400 did not have to hide from the competition from Munich and Zuffenhausen. The very positive test results from this time confirm this.

Despite a really attractive and sporty design and high processing quality, only 2398 of the 2400 Fiat Coupé were sold. This was probably not enough for the Fiat group and so production was discontinued in 1972.

History of the offered Fiat 2400 Coupé

This vehicle was imported from Italy by Scuderia Sportiva Colonia in 2011. The first owner in Italy, Sergio G., registered it in Bologna on May 27th, 1970 with the registration number BO416824. He owned this car for 41 years !! We bought the car of his time from him.

The 2nd owner in Germany bought this Fiat Dino in 2011 and exchanged it for a Maserati with us in 2013.

The 3rd owner, also from Germany, drove it another 5,000 km and also had a lot of fun with this beautiful Fiat. He procured a contemporary radio and looked after and cherished this very original Fiat Dino in an exemplary manner. Only because of lack of time does he part with his dream car with a heavy heart. And so we are pleased that we can present this icon for the 3rd time in our hall.

This Fiat is largely in its original condition. Most of the paintwork is the original. The engine and the gearbox are of course "matching". The excellent gaps allow the conclusion that this dinosaur never had an accident. The engine starts at first request, the 5-speed gearbox shifts superbly, the new chassis and renewed brakes are without complaint. The velor interior is in very good condition, the dashboard is original and without cracks. Door panels are very good. The paintwork is still very neat for the time, although slight heat blisters can be seen on the roof. Here the new owner has to decide whether the original paint should be retained or our painter partially repaints the roof with a very thin layer of paint. The history is complete. It is a Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé in a rare color scheme, with a wonderful story and an impressive original condition.

We have two more Fiat Dino 2400 Coupé on offer. a) a "nocciola" brown metallic, completely restored "nuts & bolts" incl. new interior in the original material and b) a light blue metallic which is in the restoration.
